VIDEO: Director proposes to girlfriend during Emmy acceptance speech

It was certainly a memorable night for Glenn Weiss.

The director took home his 12th Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special, but his acceptance speech was where the magic happened.

When his name was announced, the 57-year-old got a big kiss from his girlfriend and a hug from Jimmy Kimmel as he made his way up to the stage.

First, he acknowledges his late mother, his biggest fan, who passed away two weeks before the award show.

Then he shifts the attention to the other most important woman in his life, his girlfriend Jan Svendsen.

“Mom always believed in finding the sunshine in things and she adored my girlfriend Jan,” he said. “Jan, you are the sunshine in my life and mom was right, don’t ever let go of your sunshine.”

“You wonder why I don’t like to call you my girlfriend? Because I want to call you my wife.”

Mic drop. The crowd absolutely erupted, jumping to their feet with all sorts of shocked expressions, as an equally as shocked Svendsen made her way to the stage.

Weiss took out the ring that his dad gave his mom 67 years earlier and made it official, dropping to one knee in front of the excited audience.

Svendsen said yes and the couple sealed it with a kiss.

The Emmys may not get the love that award shows like The Oscars and The Grammys get, but Weiss certainly provided a special moment for the show on Monday night.
