A Canadian lottery ticket worth $70M is set to expire next month

It’s almost unfathomable to think about, but a Canadian lottery player is just over a month away from potentially giving up a $70-million fortune.

According to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG), a jackpot-winning ticket worth $70-million from the Lotto Max draw on June 28, 2022, has gone unclaimed.

All lottery winners in Canada have a full year to claim their prize, which means someone only has 35 days left to claim this life-changing windfall.

British Columbians don’t have anything to worry about, unless they purchased a Lotto Max ticket in Scarborough, Ont., last June, but it’s still shocking to see such a significant ticket go unclaimed after 11 months.

It’s not unheard of to take some time before cashing in a lottery ticket worth millions of dollars, but whoever bought this one is certainly cutting it a bit close.

The OLG is encouraging lottery players to check places where tickets often get stored, like clothing pockets, handbags, backpacks, wallets, glove compartments and drawers.

If the unthinkable happens and the ticket is not claimed by June 28, 2023, the OLG says the $70-million prize will be returned to players through future bonus games or promotions.

And just in case you were wondering, the winning numbers were: 8, 19, 22, 41, 42, 46, 47 - Bonus 10.
