Family of another Humboldt Broncos player still in hospital gives update on his condition

Last week, the family of Layne Matechuk released a statement that provided an update on the 18-year-old’s condition.

This week, it’s the family of the other Humboldt Broncos player who remains in hospital, Morgan Gobeil, who is giving concerned fans an update more than five months after the April 6 bus crash that sent him to hospital.

“What we will tell you is that he is recovering, but he has a long way to go and will still be in hospital for a few more months,” the statement said.

“Morgan suffered a significant brain injury and the past months have been difficult, with the road to recovery complex. But at the same time, it has been remarkable to watch his progress.”

The family says he’s now focused on his rehab and is participating in physio, occupational and speech therapies.

“(He) does all this with a good demeanor,” the family explains. “Although he knows he was in a bus accident on the way to his game in Nipawin, he does not know the extent of what has happened.”

For that reason, Gobeil doesn’t know just how much overwhelming support has poured in for him and his teammates from all over the world, but the family is grateful for it.

The statement thanks first responders, hospital staff, sports teams around the world, fans, their “new Broncos family” and many more people, who have made this difficult road just slightly easier.

Gobeil’s family asks for the continued respect of the 19-year-old’s privacy and says they’ll provide updates as they happen.

TSN will broadcast the Humboldt Broncos 2018 season and home opener against the Nipawin Hawks on Wednesday night, which you can find out more about here.
