Thousands of Canadians are in the path of deadly tropical storms

While neither storm is a real threat to Canadian soil, it will definitely have an effect on plenty of Canadians.

According to Global Affairs Canada, thousands of Canadians are in the path of extreme weather that’s expected to hit the United States and Southeast Asia.

Registration is voluntary, so the numbers are likely much higher, but at least 440 Canadians have registered in areas expected to be impacted by Hurricane Florence.

That storm is expected to make landfall today, and while it’s been downgraded from a category four to category two storm, it’s still incredible large and powerful.

Meanwhile, 3,446 Canadians have registered in areas expected to be impacted by typhoon Mangkhut, which is about to hit the Philippines.

Another 149 are registered in areas that tropical storm Isaac could affect, which is moving through the Caribbean.

Global Affairs Canada will provide consular assistance to any of these Canadians if required, but travel to the U.S. east coast should be avoided at this point.
