Woman uses unconventional strategy to lure wolf-dog that escaped from Calgary airport

After a Calgary woman’s new wolf-dog escaped from the Calgary airport after being flown in, an unconventional strategy was used to lure the pet back.

Jeanine Rebsomen arrived at the airport to pick up Aria, a wolf-dog that was flown in from Oklahoma. However, Aria managed to escape from her crate and could not be caught by staff or animal control.

That prompted Rebsomen to fly Aria’s previous owner, Courtney Curtis, in to lend a helping hand a few days after Aria vanished.

Curtis urinated in a cup and spread the scent around the area where the dog had been sighted and brought an old blanket and toy. And it worked. On Thursday, Aria came running back to be reunited with them.

“Once she came into the headlights I knew immediately it was her and it didn’t take her very long at all to run right up to me and it was the best feeling ever,” Rebsomen said Friday. “She was sniffing towards Courtney and then she picked up her scent and it was joy, it was ecstatic, it just made me cry.”

Aria is now settling into her new home near Edmonton with her new owner.
