Frito Lay Canada has voluntarily recalled a pair of its most popular snacks.
The company says the recall of SunChips Harvest Cheddar Flavour Multigrain Snacks and Munchies Original Snack Mix is “out of an abundance of caution.”
“This action is the direct result of a seasoning supplier's notification that an ingredient supplied to it by a third party was potentially contaminated with salmonella,” a news release explained.
“Although no salmonella was found in the seasoning supplied to Frito Lay Canada, the company has decided to recall these products out of an abundance of caution.”
The recall only applies to the specific products and flavours with certain best before dates, which are clarified on this Health Canada recall page.
Consumers are urged to check their pantries for any of the products listed on the recall page and dispose of them.
No other flavours of SunChips are impacted.
“Frito Lay Canada is working closely with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency to ensure the recalled products are removed from the marketplace,” the news release added.
Salmonella is a bacterium that can potentially cause diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps.
While most people can recover without treatment, severe diarrhea in some cases can lead to hospitalization.
The elderly, infants and those with impaired immune systems are more susceptible to severe illness due to salmonella.
