A number of Okanagan residents are looking for a new gym after the popular 9Round Fitness announced it would be closing all three of its Central Okanagan locations.
Owners Dave Kirk and Tricia Chrzanowski revealed the news to their patrons through a newsletter email on Sunday night.
“We are extremely sad to announce that we will (be) permanently closing all of the 9Round gyms in the Kelowna area, effective immediately,” the notice read.
Kirk and Chrzanowski noted that the last two years have been very difficult for all, but the effects on the gym industry have been “devastating.”
They partially blamed COVID-19 health measures and closures for the closure, but added that the recent cost of living increases have resulted in the gyms no longer being financially viable.
“We truly appreciate the support over the years and hope that you understand that this was not an easy decision for us,” they wrote.
“We opened the gyms with the goal of helping people embrace health and fitness as part of their daily lives, and not being able to continue that journey with you is heartbreaking.”
The Instagram accounts for all three Central Okanagan 9Round Fitness locations were deactivated as of this morning, while the Facebook pages remain active with no word of the permanent closure.
Another kickboxing-based gym in West Kelowna, Final Round Boxing posted a screenshot of the notice to its Instagram account and offered 9Round members a free 14-day trial at their gym.
KelownaNow has reached out to the owners for more information about the closure.
