1. WHO and national governments blasted for 'toxic cocktail' response to 'preventable' COVID-19 pandemic

The combined response to the COVID-19 pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) and national governments was a "toxic cocktail," a panel set up by the WHO has said. They said the pandemic, which is believed to have started in China, was preventable.

2. Gunman who killed 6 at birthday party was upset about not being invited

A gunman who killed six people at a birthday party in Colorado did so because he was not invited, police have said. Teodoro Macias, 28, killed his girlfriend as well as five relatives before killing himself on Sunday.

3. 'Full-scale war' a risk amid Israel-Palestine conflict: UN

The UN has warned of the possibility of "full-scale war" between Israel and armed Palestinian groups after more than a thousand rockets were fired at Jewish population centres over the last 36 hours. The Israeli military has carried out hundreds of air strikes in Gaza. At least 53 Palestinians and six Israelis have so far died in the conflict.

4. Trans women jailed for 'attempting homosexuality'

Two trans women have been sentenced to five years in jail for "attempting homosexuality" in Cameroon. The duo was also convicted of outraging public decency.

5. Rarely seen deep-sea fish washes ashore in California

A strange fish has washed up on the California coast, prompting wonder among zoologists and locals. It is "extremely rare" to see a Pacific footballfish in California, a whale watching group said.
