1. First image of supermassive black hole released

A gigantic black hole at the centre of our galaxy has been pictured for the first time. Sagittarius A* is four million times the mass of our sun.

2. Prosecutors investigating footage said to show Russian troops shooting civilians

Ukrainian prosecutors are investigating footage said to show Russian soldiers killing civilians near Kyiv. Russian forces have been accused of committing a multitude of war crimes in Ukraine.

3. US COVID-19 death toll passes 1 million

More than a million people in the US have now died with COVID-19, the White House has said. It's the highest official death toll in the world, though the World Health Organization said other countries are likely to have suffered many more deaths.

4. Saudi oil giant nudges past Apple to become world's most valuable company

Apple is no longer the world's most valuable company. Saudi Arabian oil and gas giant Aramco – now worth over US$2.4 trillion – has leapfrogged the Californian tech firm as technology stocks dip and oil prices surge.

5. Adidas bare breast ad deemed offensive in UK

An Adidas ad campaign featuring bare breasts has been banned in the UK over concerns it could cause offence. The German company said the campaign – designed to sell sports bras – showed "just how diverse breasts are."

And lastly...

An appropriately named Great Dane has been officially acknowledged as the world's tallest dog. Guinness World Records said Zeus, who lives in Texas, stands at 3 ft 5.18 in.
