1. Musk puts Twitter purchase 'on hold'

American tycoon Elon Musk has said his US$44 billion deal to buy Twitter is on hold while he waits for details on the number of spam accounts on the website. Musk added that he remains "committed to the acquisition," however.

2. Paratrooper killed by bear in Alaska

A US Army paratrooper has been killed by a bear while training in Alaska. Seth Plant, 30, was a veteran of the war in Afghanistan.

3. Orange County fire burns down luxury homes

More than a dozen luxury homes have been burned as a fast-moving wildfire continues to spread in Southern California. The Coastal blaze in Orange County, which started on Wednesday, is now about 200 acres in size.

4. North Korea confirms 1st death from COVID-19

North Korea has confirmed its first COVID-19 death. The state's media said a further 187,000 people have been isolated for treatment.

5. Indian parents sue son over lack of grandkids

Parents in the Indian state of Uttarakhand are suing their only son because he has failed to give them a grandchild after six years of marriage. Sanjeev and Sadhana Prasad said they spent their savings raising their son and now expect either $845,000 in compensation or a grandchild within a year.

Scientists have grown plants using soil from the moon for the first time. The researchers nurtured a type of cress in lunar dust collected during the 1969–72 Apollo missions.
