1. Pilot intentionally crashed plane, US officials tell media

A plane crash in March that killed 132 passengers was caused by the pilot, US officials have reportedly found. US media, citing investigators, have claimed that the China Eastern Airlines plane was intentionally put into a nose-dive.

2. FBI opens hate crime probe after women shot in Dallas

Police in the US have said a man accused of shooting three women at a Texas salon deliberately targeted people of East Asian origin. The FBI has now opened a hate crime investigation into the alleged crimes of Jeremy Theron Smith.

3. Chinese vase bought for less than $1K sells for $2.3M

An 18th Century Chinese vase bought for less than a thousand dollars in the 1980s has sold for $2.3 million at auction. The object had been estimated to sell for less than $200,000.

4. Russian soldier admits killing civilian in war crime trial

A Russian soldier has pleaded guilty to killing a civilian in the first war crimes trial related to the Ukraine war. Vadim Shishimarin, 21, admitted shooting a 62-year-old man in the early days of the Russian invasion.

5. Judge strikes down law mandating quota of women on corporate boards

A court in Los Angeles has struck down a California law that forces companies to have up to three women on corporate boards. Superior Court Judge Maureen Duffy-Lewis said the 2018 legislation is unconstitutional because it violates the right to equal treatment under the law.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has got himself into something of a pickle after flattening a child during a soccer game. Morrison is hoping to extend his time as leader of the country when citizens vote in a federal election this weekend.
