5 things you need to know this morning: Nov. 18, 2019

Start your day off right with five things you need to know this morning.

Five things you need to know

1. Multiple dead after shooting at backyard party in California

A backyard gathering to watch the Los Angeles Rams game ended in tragedy on Sunday night. A shooter snuck onto a property in Fresno where a large group of family was watching the game in the backyard. The gunman opened fire and killed four people, with six others being injured and sent to hospital.

2. Winnipeg and Hamilton to meet in the 2019 Grey Cup

For one franchise, a lengthy Grey Cup drought is going to end in Calgary next weekend. It’s been 20 years since the Hamilton Tiger-Cats have won it all and 29 years since the Winnipeg Blue Bombers hoisted the trophy. Those are the two teams that will be playing for the title next weekend. Kickoff is on Sunday at 3 pm.

3. Kylie Jenner sells 51% of her beauty and cosmetic brands for $600 million

Kyle Jenner likely doesn’t need any more money, but she’s $600 million richer after a business transaction today. Jenner sold 51% of her business Kylie Cosmetics to Coty for $600 million, which values her company at around $1.2 billion. She says the partnership will allow Coty to focus on taking the brand global, while Jenner and her team focuses on creating and developing new products.

4. Measles outbreak kills at least 16 in Samoa

A measles outbreak in Samoa has claimed the lives of at least 16 people. Fifteen of the victims are children, while one adult has also died. In response, Samoa has closed its schools, banned children from public gatherings and has mandated that everyone get vaccinated. Only 30% of Samoans are protected from the disease.

5. Prince Andrew caught up in racial issue

It’s not a good time to be Prince Andrew. The Duke of York is currently caught up in a couple of scandalous issues, including an accusation that he used a racial slur during a palace meeting in 2012. Prince Andrew denies using the ‘n-word’, but a former aide of David Cameron said he heard him use the word and has provided the exact quote.
