1. EU removes Canada from its list of countries whose residents can visit during the pandemic

The European Union is removing Canada, Tunisia and Georgia from its list of countries whose citizens are allowed access for non-essential travel. Canada was removed as cases increase across the country.

2. Thailand lifts controversial emergency declaration

Thailand Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha retracted a declaration of severe emergency in Bangkok, which had been a justification for the government to clamp down pro-democracy protests and interrupt transportations in the capital.

3. Volunteer who died in AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine trial may have been part of a placebo group

Brazilian health authority Anvisa says a volunteer in a clinical trial of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University has died from COVID-19 complications. Local media reported the 28-year-old man from Rio de Janeiro did not take the trial vaccine and suggested he was given a placebo.

4. Texas social workers can now turn away clients who are LGBTQ or have a disability

Social workers in Texas now have the ability to turn away clients who identify as LGBTQ, or have a disability. A professional organization of social workers called the change "incredibly disheartening.”

5. Leaked curriculum proposals for Alberta suggest removing references to residential schools and 'equity’

A leaked document reviewed by CBC reporter Janet French revealed a series of proposals to make some alarming changes to the Alberta education curriculum. The changes would see all references to equity, residential schools and the harm they had on Indigenous peoples removed for Kindergarten to Grade 4.
