American woman shares heartwarming story about losing valuables while travelling in Canada

If you’re visiting a foreign country, the last thing you want to do is lose things like your wallet, passports, keys and medication.

Lucky for one American, she was visiting a nation where people are known to be friendly and honest.

That nation, of course, is Canada.

The American traveller took to Reddit to share her story of losing a bag full of her most valuable and important possessions while visiting Montreal recently.

“I was checking into my Airbnb and set my bags down on the sidewalk to get my room key from its lockbox,” she explained in a post to the Canada subreddit.

“I rushed upstairs with my bags. As soon as I got in the apartment, I took a nap as I was exhausted from the long drive.”

She said it was a few hours later when she woke up around 5 pm local time and went downstairs to catch her Uber.

Staying on one of the busiest streets in Montreal, a familiar looking bag in the middle of the sidewalk caught her eye.

That’s because it was her bag.

“This bag had my life in it,” she said. “My MacBook Pro, about 10 prescription medication bottles, my wallet, driver’s licence, keys, my passports - you name it.”

Unfortunately, those items were gone when she checked in the bag, but they had been replaced by a note.

It had instructions to call the number if the bag’s owner found their note, which is exactly what happened.

“Instead of asking for ransom or cash in exchange for my life’s most valuable items, the woman on the phone met me a few houses down and gave me everything back,” the woman explained.

“She took my important items to ensure they weren’t stolen and made sure they got back to me safely.”

Clearly in awe of what happened, the woman decided to rant and rave about the honesty shown to her by this Canadian woman on Reddit and her thread has since blown up.

“Thank you, Canada, for reminding me what real, kind humans are like.”
