A product that debuted over the weekend has many people scratching their heads and asking “but why?”
Unfiltered Hot Dog Water lit up social media accounts in Vancouver after being sold for $37.99 at an event in the city’s Main Street neighbourhood.
The outrageously expensive water is sold with plenty of buzzwords including “gluten-free,” “Keto diet-compatible,” “rich in sodium,” “metabolic demand,” and it's a source of electrolytes.
A clear bottle also makes the large hot dog floating inside perfectly obvious.
Is it for real? Well yes, but also no.
Despite being a real product, the creators are clearly “trolling” or making a point about the unrealistic marketing behind certain foods.
Along with promoting benefits such as “Aiding your body’s ability to access calcium channel receptors in your heart” the product comes with an explanation of its history.
“Hot dog water in its absurdity hopes to encourage critical thinking related to product marketing and the significant role it can play in our purchasing choices.”
The vendor behind the sensation is Douglas Bevans, who told Global News in an interview that he wanted to offer “a commentary on product marketing, and especially sort of health-quackery product marketing.”
He aslo said they sold over 60 litres of the interesting beverage.
