BC records 46 deaths from COVID-19 over the weekend

BC set a grim all time high for COVID-19 related deaths over the weekend.

On Monday, Dr. Bonnie Henry confirmed 46 deaths were recorded, 80% of which were residents of long term care homes.

During her press briefing, Henry announced 750 new cases were identified Friday to Saturday, 731 cases Saturday to Sunday and 596 Sunday to Monday.

There were also 277 historical cases added for a total of 2,364 new cases over the three day period.

Currently, 316 patients are in hospital with the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, including 75 in critical care, out of 8,855 active cases.

Speaking to the fines handed out to churches violating COVID-19 restrictions, Henry said "It is not about rights, it is about community."

Health Minister Adrian Dix reported that BC hospitals are at 74.3% capacity for ICU beds, but that there are certain hospitals under more pressure than others.

Dix also confirmed that BC has purchased 2.24 million doses of the flu vaccine, 2-million have been sent out and at least 1.2-million doses have already been administered in the province.
