BC records 706 new COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations rise to 284

On Tuesday, health officials reported 706 new COVID-19 cases in BC.

When broken down by health region, this number represents 174 in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 678 in the Fraser Health region, 11 in the Island Health region, 49 in the Interior Health region, and 29 in the Northern Health region.

The number of people in hospital with COVID-19 rose by seven to 284, a new record high, 61 of whom are in intensive care.

There have been 10 new COVID-19 related deaths, for a total of 358 deaths in BC.

Earlier in the day, the province ordered all gymnastic centres, dance studios, martial arts venues and yoga studios in British Columbia to close immediately while new guidance is being developed.

“We need to slow the spread of COVID-19 in our province and that needs to happen now. That is why we have paused all gatherings, events and indoor group fitness activities," said Dr. Bonnie Henry in a written statement.

“That is also why everyone, young and old, needs to pause their social interactions and increase their layers of protection and stay within their local communities as much as possible."
