A window washing company has been ordered to pay thousands of dollars after discharge into Sidney’s Reay Creek killed hundreds of fish.
The BC Conservation Officer Service (BC COS) said that the Integrated Environmental Enforcement Unit investigated the incident with the Province in June 2021.
They found a roof de-mossing mixture that contained sodium hypochlorite, aka bleach and surfactant, was present in the water.
This discharge resulted in the death of over 300 fish and other organisms in the 150-metre section of Reay Creek downstream of the Wesbrook Drive storm sewer outfall.
Elevate Exterior Washing Ltd. received an administrative penalty of $11,000.
