Kamloops Mounties are being investigated by the police watchdog after a woman was seriously injured during an encounter with officers.
The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC was notified about the incident, which occurred on Oct. 14, by the RCMP.
The IIO was informed on Oct. 22, when the RCMP was told the woman’s injuries were serious.
On Oct. 14, at about 4:30 pm, frontline Kamloops officers were called to a residential facility in the 1800 block of Greenfield Avenue.
They were told a woman had threatened a person she knew and was running up and down the building’s hallways.
Arriving officers said they found her in possession of a weapon.
When one of the officers attempted to disarm the woman, she was hurt, the RCMP said.
She was then arrested and held under the Mental Health Act.
At the time, she had non-life-threatening injuries, the RCMP explained.
“IIO BC is investigating to determine whether police actions are linked to the woman’s injury,” the RCMP said.
The IIO investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
