24th annual Tree of Hope light up will take place Thursday

For the past 24 years, the Tree of Hope has been a focal point in the Landmark District.

The giant led-lit Christmas tree is assembled each year from late Nov. until Jan. 1, and stands as a beacon of hope and goodwill in the community.

More than just a holiday symbol, the tree lighting is also an opportunity to usher in a season of compassion, generosity, and gratitude; while also learning about the issues in our city and the charities that exist to address them.

Thousands of people took part in the light-up last year from the comfort of their home and this year, KelownaNow will stream the light-up live on Nov. 25.

The celebration initiative this year is named Raising Hope.

This year’s recipients are Karis Support Society and NOW Canada, who have come together for the common goal of raising up the vulnerable women and children in Kelowna’s community.

Raising Hope 2021 seeks to highlight, address, and elevate the conversation of “Women at Risk”.

Together, these local non-profits help women transition from a life of addiction, abuse, exploitation, and mental health challenges to a life in recovery and independence.

The Tree of Hope initiative is in partnership with the Landmark District, TD Canada Trust, and the Stober Foundation who will be matching donations up to $100,000.
