Kelowna’s 20th annual Santa Bus is set to begin on Sunday.
From Dec. 4 to Dec. 10, the bus will be on the road collecting donations for the Salvation Army and the Central Okanagan Food Bank.
“BC Transit is grateful to all the volunteers at First Transit who have dedicated their time over the years to lifting holiday spirits with the Santa Bus,” Chelsea Mossey, senior government relations manager, BC Transit.
“This initiative has had a significant impact on the communities they serve, and 20 years is a tremendous accomplishment worthy of celebration.”
Since 2002, the annual campaign has raised over $600,000 in donations to help people who are in need.
People looking to help out those who are in need of a little extra help this holiday season, can donate non-perishable food items, toiletries, new toys and cash.
The Santa Bus will be visiting local elementary schools, grocery stores, senior centres and daycares for the entire first week of December.
“The smiles, laughter and anticipation of kids and enjoyment for myself, the Santa team and the visitors is heartwarming and magical and feels great to be able to help out,” says Frank Teichmann, transit operator at First Transit.
“Everyone wants to see Santa, and yes even adults love to see him and get a picture. It truly gets you in the Christmas spirit.”
The annual campaign will wrap up for the season with an event at Stuart Park on Dec. 10.
