Monologue Slam Canada hits Kelowna

What started as a way for local actors to have a safe, nurturing and consistent space to perform, has since turned into North America’s largest acting showcase.

Monologue Slam Canada promotes inclusion and free expression through the performing arts.

They engage with other arts organizations, unions, and community groups, in order to promote, develop and advocate for initiatives that create a more vibrant and diverse industry in Canada.

For the first time ever, Monologue Slam Canada will be coming to Kelowna, not only to jumpstart the acting scene in the city but to raise the bar when it comes to providing an outlet to engage artists and fans.

In partnership with Born to Act Studios, the inaugural Kelowna Monologue Slam will be held on Friday, July 15 at DunnEnzies Mission at 9 pm.

Performers are given three minutes to perform a monologue of their choice and then receive critique from the judges. After the first round of actors have gone up, three finalists are selected to move on to the second round.

Here’s the catch, in the second round, finalists are given plot twists that must be incorporated into their original piece.

Some twists have included the actor now being drunk at their wedding or turning into a werewolf.

At the conclusion of the second round, the audience will vote for the winner via an online voting app and within seconds a winner is announced.

Winners not only get ultimate bragging rights but a cash prize as well.

While not everyone will come out on top, this event is a great networking event for actors, with many of them in the past finding an agent, or simply connecting with other local talents.

With applications now closed, Kelowna residents can still watch the performance live at DunnEnzies Mission on July 15 with tickets $20 at the door.
