Residents and tourists will have a new way of exploring the city this summer.
Canada West Segway has announced their launch date under the brand OGO Scooters.
They’ll be the first of three companies to launch in Kelowna this summer, with e-scooters becoming available this Friday.
A total of 60 scooters will be launched by OGO.
Two other companies, Spin and Zip, were also awarded permits to operate in the city. Spin will b providing 400 electric scooters and Zip will bring in 25.
Canada West Segway says that they are bringing the service to the community while keeping in mind the mistakes made by previous launches.
They’re addressing issues like poor safety and etiquette practices with a model that will prevent scooters from ending up in places they don’t belong.
The rental operation has designated pick-up and drop-off locations that are geo-fenced. Using the Segway Discovery app and cloud services, they can create parameters controlling where they can and can’t go, and enforces the use of pick-up and drop-off locations.
All riders will be provided with a helmet and will have to sign a waiver. They’ll also have to complete a mandatory training/etiquette tutorial through the app.
“The micromobility revolution is coming to Kelowna and the importance of navigating this carefully cannot be understated,” said Chris Szydlowski, owner of Canada West Segway. “We have an opportunity to embrace this new technology while learning from the mistakes of the early adopters, and implementing the right model for Kelowna.”
