VIDEO: Climate change worries take some of the fun out of a record setting day

Temperatures of 18°C or 19°C on Dec. 1 are lovely if you're out for a walk, but for many people out enjoying it, there is an underlying sense that it's just not right.

The record-setting warmth is part of the same system that is delivering the latest in a series of atmospheric rivers.

"The extreme weather events we’ve been experiencing are unprecedented," said BC's Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth.

It was an atmospheric river that delivered the devastating floods and slides that took out so much of BC's highway infrastructure in November.

So that takes some of the joy out of what feels like spring weather.

"I think it's a little bit scary, said one woman out strolling the waterfront. "This can't be good," said another.

“I think I'm starting to run out of words to describe what I'm seeing," Meteorologist Geoff Coulson told KelownaNow.

He described the incredibly high temperatures as "...a testament to the power of the system that's been affecting the coast."

But the balmy weather isn't expected to last long.

Temperatures are expected to start dropping Thursday as a cold front starts to work its way through the valley.
