History has been made in Winfield.
After a few practices, the area’s first all-girls hockey team hit the ice for their first game in late January.
It was a 1-0 loss to the Kelowna girls atom team, but their manager Jenn McWhirter says it was an exciting moment nonetheless.
“They played with intensity, focus and fierceness,” McWhirter said. “They certainly made Winfield proud with all their hard work and determination!”
Devon Ramsey, Jason Caron, Dave McWhirter and Jayson Kasper coach the team that’s made up of 14 girls.
Those girls are Courtnay Cooke, Sheldon McConkey, Avery Pellett, Kireii Mullin, Mya Regnier, Ava Morrison, Sammi McWhirter, Peyton Lewis, Abby Lawrence, Clare Lawrence, Autumn Ramsey, Demitria Caron, Cassidy Burke and Paisley Kasper.
The team will compete in a tournament in Kelowna from March 15-17.
