West Kelowna’s Kylie Jack and teammate Jaya Rampuri of Coquitlam made Simon Fraser University Clan history this week, becoming the first individual golfers to represent the school at the NCAA Div. II Women’s Golf Championships.
Jack, an Aberdeen Hall graduate, in her final season with the Clan, secured one of four West Regional berths following three strong rounds of play at the Amarillo Country Club in Texas recently.
She shot a four-over-par 75 on the final day to finish with a three-round total of 221 (73, 73, 75). The senior had a tournament-high 41 made pars over 54 holes and Jack earned a share of eighth place on the leaderboard.
At the NCAA championships in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Rampuri shot a 1-over-par 74 during the final round of the tournament at the PGA National Resort - Champion Course on Thursday to earn a share of seventh place among 95 golfers.
It was her best score of the week and it propelled her up nine spots on the leaderboard. She was 2-over through the first nine holes but made back-to-back birdies at two par 5s to get back to even par. On 18, she got her third birdie of the back nine to wrap up her first-ever NCAA Championships appearance.
The junior finished with a three-round total of seven-over-par 226 (75, 77, 74), and overall, Rampuri fired eight birdies across the 54 holes and she tied for third with 35 made pars.
Jack capped her collegiate career at Simon Fraser with a Round 3 score of 82 (+9). It was the third-straight round of shooting an 82 and her total of 246 put her in a tie for 57th on the leaderboard. She had four birdies over the championships and made 27 pars, including 10 in each of her last two rounds.
"Kylie's journey with SFU is representative of the program as a whole," Clan coach Matthew Steinbach explained. "When she started, the team played only six tournaments a year and was just starting to find its way in competing within the conference.
“Five years later, Kylie (and Jaya) have played the most rounds of golf for SFU in a single season with 25 across 11 tournaments, which includes winning the GNAC title, competing at Regionals and now playing at Nationals.
“Kylie is an amazing person and we're grateful for her time on the team — I'm excited for whatever she chooses to do next."
