Owls overcome Boucherie's quick start for hoop win

The Mt. Boucherie Bears did their best to reignite a long-time senior Quad-A high school basketball rivalry early in their Okanagan Valley regular-season game against the Kelowna Owls this week.

Playing host to the Kelowna Secondary School representatives in front of fans in a packed gym on Tuesday in West Kelowna, the Bears jumped out to an 18-12 lead in the first quarter and scored the first seven points in the second to go up by 13 points.

The visitors — shooting 19-for-32 on three-pointers and 27-for-73 from the field — extended the lead to 60-40 after three quarters and finished with a 73-59 victory and their third win of the early regular season.

Kaeden Skelton, Owen Labidie and Josh Clancy all finished in double figures for the Bears.

The Owls return to action tonight when they play their opening game at the Jasper Place Rebels Invitational in Edmonton against Dr. Martin LeBoldus High School of Regina.
