Hundreds show support at 9th annual Easter Scramble

On Saturday afternoon, the Central Okanagan Food Bank hosted their 9th annual Easter Egg Scramble, welcoming hundreds of families to Memorial Park in West Kelowna.

The fundraising and food-raising event is vital for the community resource as often times the food bank runs low on supplies following their busy winter season.

According to communications officer for the food bank Tamie Williams, fund and supply raising for the food bank is a year-round job, as the Kelowna location serves over 4,000 people each month.

“Right now we are quite low on some of our staples such as canned meat, vegetables and fruit — our goal is to just keep raising enough food to be able to nourish those in our community who face food insecurity on a daily basis,” said Williams.

The free, family-friendly and festive event accepts non-perishable food items for admission and also had various raffles take place throughout the afternoon as a way to garner funds in an exciting way.

“I love this event because it is a great way for families to get together and raise food and funds for the Food Bank in a fun, festive and friendly way,” added Williams.

From face painting, giant Jenga, obstacle courses, sweet treats and, of course, the massive Easter egg hunt — fun was around every corner at Memorial Park.

With 12,000 eggs sprawled across the park's lawn, little ones lined up along the fence eager to hop into action. On the word “Go!” they all rushed to the scene gathering as many brightly coloured eggs as they could in hopes of finding a golden ticket.

Those lucky enough to find a ticket, cashed it in for one of the 24 ultimate easter baskets up for grabs.
