Canada is soaring to new heights at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang.
Kaetlyn Osmond skated to a bronze medal in women’s singles figure skating on Friday morning, Canada’s 27th medal of the games.
That breaks the country’s previous medal record for a single Winter Olympics, which was previously set with 26 at Vancouver 2010.
They collected 24 medals at Turin 2006 and another 25 at Sochi 2014, the only other times Canada has had more than 20.
For Osmond, it’s her second medal of the games.
The 22-year-old from Marystown, NL helped Canada to a gold medal in the team event at the beginning of PyeongChang 2018.
She also won a silver medal in the team event at Sochi 2014.
Osmond entered the free skate portion of today's competition only trailing two skaters, Alina Zagitova and Evgenia Medvedeva, both Olympic Athletes from Russia.
The Canadian delivered a fantastic final skate, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the points gap between her and the Russian skaters, both of which were favourites in the competition.
Canada now sits at 10 gold, 8 silver and 9 bronze medals for that record-breaking total of 27.
