UPDATE: Penticton City Council okays new rainbow crosswalk

(UPDATE: July 6 @ 10 am) – Penticton City Council has given the green light for the city to receive a new rainbow crosswalk to show support for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

The new crosswalk will be located at the intersection of Front Street and Lakeshore Drive East.

“I think it's going to be a wonderful addition to the entrance to colourful Front Street,” noted councillor Katie Robinson.

“I can’t think of a better place that it should be in the city.”

Brett Turner, the new executive director for the Downtown Penticton Business Improvement Association (DPBIA), presented the proposal to city council during Tuesday’s committee of the whole meeting.

The DPBIA has partnered with Travel Penticton and the South Okanagan Similkameen Pride Society to provide $4,000 in funding for the project.

Penticton city council voted unanimously to approve this proposal.
