UPDATE: Evacuation alert lifted for rural area near Vanderhoof

(UPDATE: July 21 @ 1:45 p.m.) - The evacuation alert for the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako has been lifted.

The alert that was originally placed on Wednesday covered the following areas:

  • East of Dog Creek Forest Service Road (FSR) to Geernaert Road
  • South of Barlow Forest Service Road (FSR) to Nechako River
  • Westwood Road
  • Braeside Road

The Dog Creek Trail wildfire continues to burn at 314 hectares.

(Original story: July 18 @ 3 p.m.) - The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako has issued an evacuation alert for a rural area near Vanderhoof.

According to the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako, the evacuation alert has been issued for the following areas:

  • East of Dog Creek Forest Service Road (FSR) to Geernaert Road
  • South of Barlow Forest Service Road (FSR) to Nechako River
  • Westwood Road
  • Braeside Road

This alert is due to the Dog Creek Trail wildfire that is currently burning at 80 hectares, just 25 km northwest of Vanderhoof.

According to BC Wildfire Service, heavy equipment operators and 29 firefighters are working to build road access to the fire.
