UPDATE: Part of the Shovel Lake wildfire evacuation order rescinded

(UPDATE: Aug. 31) - A portion of the evacuation alert that was issued on Aug. 15 has been rescinded. That area includes north of Fraser Lake and Highway 16, east of Sheraton FSR to east of Fort Fraser.

An alert remains in place for areas east of Taltapin Lake, south of Stuart Lake and west of the Necoslie FSR.

An evacuation order remains in place for North of the north shore of Fraser Lake to the middle of Sutherland River Park. East of the center of Taltapin Lake to west of Dog Creek FSR

(UPDATE: Aug. 25 @ 2 p.m.) - A portion of the Shovel Lake wildfire evacuation order has been rescinded.

The order was originally issued by the Regional District of Bulkley Nechako on Aug. 16, 2018.

The order has been rescinded on the north shore of Fraser Lake from east of the Stella FSR to the properties on the east side of Petersen Road.

The order remains in place from north of the alert area on the north shore of Fraser Lake to south of the Camsell FSR-Cunningham FSR Junction and Cunningham FSR-Marie North FSR Junction, and east of the center of Taltapin Lake to west of Dog Creek FSR.

(UPDATE: Aug. 21 @ 7:30 p.m.) - The Shovel Lake wildfire Evacuation Order has received a partial rescission

Properties located in the Dog Creek Community west and east of Highway 27 along Cook Road and Kenner Road as well as the Echo Lake Bible Camp have been reduced to Evacuation Alerts.

The Evacuation Alerts for properties East of Augier Main FSR to east of Highway 27 as well as North of Highway 16 and approximately 14 kilometres north of the Highway 16 and Highway 27 junction to Stuart Lake.

Evacuation Orders otherwise remain in effect for properties located East of the center of Taltapin Lake and the Bomberger FSR to the south of the Camsell FSR-Cunningham FSR Junction and Cunningham FSR-Marie North FSR junction as shown on the map below.

Also included in the Evacuation Order are properties to the west and north shore of Fraser Lake to Dog Creek Road and Nadleh River.

(UPDATE: Aug. 14 @ 9:40 p.m.) - Evacuation Orders set in place for the Shovel Lake wildfire have been expanded to an even wider area.

On Monday evening, the RDBN expanded the Evacuation Orders again, impacting properties east of the center of Taltapin Lake to west of the Sutherland Angly FSR and Sutherland FSR. As well as south of the Camsell FSR-Cunningham FSR Junction and Cunningham FSR-Marie North FSR Junction to Stella Rd and the north shore of Fraser Lake to the boundary of Nadleh Whut’en First Nation as shown below.

Evacuees are required to evacuate immediately and report to the Emergency Social Services (ESS) reception centre at the back entrance of the CN Centre in Prince George located at Ospika Boulevard.

(UPDATE: Aug. 13 @ 8:30 p.m.) - Shovel Lake wildfire has forced the standing Evacuation Alerts and Orders to be expanded further by the RDBN.

The Evacuation Order is in effect for properties east of the center of Taltapin Lake to West of the Sutherland FSR and Trout FSR. South of the Camsell FSR-Cunningham FSR Junction and Cunningham FSR-Marie North FSR Junction to approximately three kilometres south of Tatin Lake as shown below.

Evacuees are required to vacate the premises immediately for safety purposes.

The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako has expanded the evacuation order for the Shovel Lake wildfire.

The order is now in effect for east of the center of Taltapin Lake to west of the Sutherland FSR and south of Hannay Lake and north of Owl Lake.

Evacuees must leave immediately.

In order to prepare yourself and your home for evacuation, be sure to:

  • Close all windows and doors.
  • Shut off all gas and electrical appliances, other than refrigerators and freezers
  • Close gates (latch) but do not lock.
  • Gather your family: take a neighbour or someone who needs help.
  • Take critical items (medicine, purse, wallet, and keys) only if they are immediately available. Take pets in pet kennels or on leash.
