A stunning Harvest Moon will be visible in the sky tonight

The moon will look particularly bright and full to those outside after sunset tonight.

According to NASA, this year's Harvest Moon is set to appear by mid-afternoon and will become increasingly visible as the sun sets.

As the full moon closest Autumnal Equinox, the event is traditionally named the Harvest Moon, allowing farmers to work late into the night as the crops near harvest.

"Usually the full Moon rises an average of 50 minutes later each night, but for the few nights around the Harvest Moon, the Moon seems to rise at nearly the same time each night: just 25 to 30 minutes later across the northern U.S., and only 10 to 20 minutes later for much of Canada and Europe," explained NASA on Monday.

Those spending the night in British Columbia will hopefully have a good shot at witnessing the event, with only periods of light cloud forecast for the Interior.

The sun will set shortly after 7 p.m. on Monday night, so have your cameras ready to go by then!
