BC SPCA seeks help after over 50 animals, including 36 mini-horses, rescued in the Interior

The BC SPCA is urgently seeking help to care for 53 animals rescued from an Interior property earlier this month.

SPCA constables removed 36 mini-horses, six cattle, five llamas, four goats and two emus, following complaints of animal neglect.

According to the agency, twenty of the mini-horses taken into care are pregnant.

“We have managed to find temporary foster homes for the animals, but the cost of their rescue and ongoing recovery is adding up quickly,” says Leiki Salumets with BC SPCA.

“The world is going through unprecedented times, but unfortunately animal cruelty has not stopped. If people are able to help, we urgently need ongoing financial support for these and other neglected and abused animals in our care.”

The horses were found badly matted and caked in mud, and suffering from malnourishment, along with limb and hoof issues, eye problems, dental issues and hair loss due to lice. Twenty of the rescued horses are also pregnant.

The horses, which range in age from one year old to over 20, have been dewormed, vaccinated, deloused, groomed and had dental exams and farrier work done.
