BC reports 18 new COVID-19 cases to bring the province over 3,000 total

Today, Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix announced 18 new cases of COVID-19 in British Columbia.

With that, the province has surpassed the 3,000 case mark and now sits at 3,000 total cases.

Just 162 of those cases remain active and the province says 2,660 of them have now fully recovered.

Health officials also reported three new deaths related to COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, all from the Vancouver Coastal Health region, bringing the total to 186 deaths in BC.

No new healthcare facility outbreaks have been recorded and the outbreak at Tabor Home has been declared over, which means there are three care facilities with active outbreaks right now.

Although there are no active community outbreaks in BC, there was a community exposure event at the No5 Orange strip club in Vancouver on Canada Day.

A release from the Ministry of Health says anyone that’s been at a location with a community exposure event is asked to monitor themselves for symptoms, limit contact with others and contact 811 to arrange testing if any symptoms develop.

"Contact tracing to contain the spread of COVID-19 requires all of our involvement to be successful,” says the release.

"Public alerts and the temporary closure of businesses are some of the ways public health teams are working to effectively manage COVID-19 in our communities.”

One slip can “quickly cause a surge in new cases,” but foundational rules for safe social interactions within BC have helped to protect all of us and allow us to enjoy several activities this summer.
