BC reports 1,692 new COVID-19 cases over weekend

British Columbia is reporting 1,692 new cases of COVID-19 over the past three days, this brings the active case count in the province to 5,608.

This is how cases broke down over the weekend:

  • Sept.17-18: 644 new cases

  • Sept.18-19: 613 new cases

  • Sept.19-20: 435 new cases

From the new/active cases this is how cases were broken down from each region:

  • Fraser Health: 533 new cases (1,732 active)

  • Interior Health: 371 new cases (1,183 active)

  • Northern Health: 345 new cases (1,037 active)

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 239 new cases (988 active)

  • Island Health: 204 new cases (661 active)

  • No new cases of people who reside outside of Canada (seven active)


There are currently 307 people in hospital, with 156 of those individuals in intensive care. The remaining people are recovering at home in self isolation.

In the past 72 hours, another 11 deaths were reported which brings the pandemic death toll in BC to 1,899.

Of the new deaths; six were reported in Fraser Health, three in Northern Health, and two in Vancouver Coastal Health.

Another outbreak has been declared in Interior Health, bringing the total number of active healthcare facility outbreaks in the province to 21.

  • Interior Health: Village at Mill Creek – second floor, Cottonwoods Care Centre, Brookhaven Care Centre, Spring Valley Care Centre, Kamloops Seniors Village, Hillside Village, The Hamlets at Westsyde, Joseph Creek Care Village, Overlander, Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital, David Lloyd Jones, Sun Pointe Village, and Hardy View Lodge

  • Fraser Health: Northcrest Care Centre, Westminster House, Menno Terrace East, and Chilliwack General Hospital

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: Arbutus Care Centre, Louis Brier Home and Hospital

  • Northern Health: Jubilee Lodge and ​​Fort St. John Hospital


In the past week (Sept. 10-16) this is how cases broke down from unvaccinated to vaccinated:

  • Not vaccinated: 3,268 (68.8%)

  • Partially vaccinated: 355 (7.5%)

  • Fully vaccinated: 1,126 (23.7%)

In the past week (Sept. 10-16) this is how cases per 100,000 population after adjusting for age were broken down from unvaccinated to vaccinated:

  • Not vaccinated: 313.7

  • Partially vaccinated: 91.6

  • Fully vaccinated: 28.6

Over the past two weeks (Sept. 3-16) this is how cases hospitalized broke down from unvaccinated to vaccinated:

  • Not vaccinated: 319 (79.6%)

  • Partially vaccinated: 22 (5.5%)

  • Fully vaccinated: 60 (15.0%)

Over the past two weeks (Sept. 3-16) this is how cases hospitalized pere 100,000 population after adjusting for age were broken down from unvaccinated to vaccinated:

  • Not vaccinated: 44.9

  • Partially vaccinated: 8.7

  • Fully vaccinated: 1.4

After factoring for age, people not vaccinated are 32.2 times more likely to be hospitalized than those fully vaccinated.


Since December, the province has administered 7,711,306 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

From the eligible people 12 and older in BC, 86.8% (4,024,302) have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 79.4% (3,679,181) received their second dose.

Of the eligible adults in BC, 87.4% (3,778,735) have received their first dose and 80.2% (3,470,043) have received their second.
