Health officials in British Columbia have provided an update on COVID-19 case counts through the August long weekend.

There were a total of 742 new cases in BC over the four-day weekend reporting period and the numbers were fairly consistent throughout that stretch.

There were 160 new cases to report on Saturday, 196 on Sunday, 185 on Monday and 201 today.

Here’s how those new cases break down by health authority, along with the current active case number for each:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health - 115 new cases (212 currently active)
  • Fraser Health - 165 new cases (348 currently active)
  • Interior Health - 395 new cases (847 currently active)
  • Northern Health - 24 new cases (43 currently active)
  • Island Health - 42 new cases (85 currently active)
  • People who reside outside of Canada - 1 new case (9 currently active)

While the case counts are high, there was only one new COVID-19 death reported in BC over the past four days, which brings the province’s pandemic death toll to 1,772.

As of today, 81.4% of eligible British Columbians over the age of 12 have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 67.3% have received their second dose.

Since December, 6,902,320 doses of all three vaccines have been administered throughout the province.
