Protestors continue to fight for what they believe in at the Fairy Creek Watershed near Port Renfrew.
According to RCMP, as of Friday, 214 protestors have now been arrested for crimes related to the injunction put in place by the BC Supreme Court, which allowed logging in the area. Residents have been at the Vancouver Island rainforest since August of 2020, though things escalated when the courts ruled in favour of the Teal Jones logging company on April 1.
The number of arrests jumped up to 214 after eight more people were taken away yesterday. Of the eight, seven were arrested for breaching the injunction while one was charged with counselling to resist arrest.
In total, 172 people have been arrested for breaching the injunction, 41 for obstruction and just one for resisting arrest. Ten of the 214 have been arrested more than once.
BC Premier John Horgan continues to keep his eyes on the protest.
On Wednesday, he announced that old-growth logging would be deferred in the area for the next two years.
