There was another highway overpass strike in British Columbia this morning.
The ongoing issue on BC highways reared its ugly head again shortly before 8 am when a westbound box truck struck the CP Rail overpass on Hwy 1 near 232 Street in Langley.
Leading the investigation into this morning’s strike is the BC Highway Patrol (BCHP), with officers talking to witnesses and reviewing video ahead of expected enforcement action.
“The damage to the overpass appears to be minor. It is hard to distinguish today’s damage from multiple past overpass strikes at this same location,” says BCHP Cpl. Michael McLaughlin.
“Police would like to remind drivers that they have a legal obligation to stop for any collision that might have caused damage.”
While the box truck had departed the scene before officers arrived, the driver has since been identified and spoken to police.
McLaughlin says both the BCHP and Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement officers are following up with the driver and owner of the commercial vehicle to “determine appropriate enforcement.”
Fortunately for motorists commuting along Hwy 1 during rush hour today, the incident did not appear to increase traffic volume in the area this morning.
