Police investigating racist graffiti found in multiple locations in Vancouver

An investigation has been launched after graffiti was found in multiple locations in West Vancouver that use racist language.

On July 9, officers received a report of graffiti in the 1300 block of Cambridge Rd. When officers arrived, they noticed extensive damage to a vehicle caused by red and blue spray paint.

The officers then canvassed the area and found multiple locations nearby that had also been tagged, such as light posts, other vehicles, and mailboxes.

They noted that one vehicle was covered bumper to bumper on both sides. Officer also found racist graffiti on the side of a second vehicle, as well as across the front of a large community mailbox.

“This is especially concerning to us given the racist language that was used,” says Cst. Kevin Goodmurphy WVPD. “We are asking anyone with information about this, to please come forward.”

It is believed the damage was done between July 8 at 4 p.m. and July 9 at 4:30 a.m.

The damage is estimated to be over $7,000.

Police are treating this as a hate crime and have notified the BC Hate Crimes Team for their review. The incidents are still under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact WVPD at 604-925-7300 (reference file #19-7936). If you wish to remain anonymous, please contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or www.solvecrime.ca.
