RCMP investigating after 2 CVSE vehicles set on fire in BC

Police are investigating after two Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) vehicles were set on fire in the northern BC community of Fort Nelson.

According to the Fort Nelson RCMP, on Friday at about 3:37 am, officers were dispatched to a vehicle fire at the Woodlands Hotel.

While officers were responding to that fire, a second vehicle fire was reported at a residential address. Fortunately, no one was injured.

An investigation determined that both the fires were deliberately set.

Police said video evidence shows an unknown person operating a snowmobile in the area at the time of both incidents.

Safety First Professional Driver Training Ltd. made a post about the incident, which included a photo of the damaged vehicles.

“We want to be the first to say, this is one of the stupidest things we have seen,” the Facebook post read. “The danger they created to those around the fires was extreme. Civilians, businesses, homes and families could have been in jeopardy (thankfully not this time).

“In addition this is our tax dollars replacing the damage done (including parking lot damage and investigation). These people are hard working peace officers that are out there keeping our roads safe, just making a living.”

Police would like to speak to anyone who may have information about the crime. If you have information, you are asked to call the Northern Rockies RCMP at (250)774-2700 or at Crime Stoppers at 1(800)222-8477 where you can remain anonymous.
