Comox Valley Search & Rescue (CVSAR) responded to the West Bowl of Mt. Cain after a 35-year-old skier suffered a serious fall and was found unconscious.

The skier was located on a steep slope outside ski boundaries, but the mountain dedicated ski patrol team took immediate action regardless. They initiated rescue efforts and prepared for air assistance.

CVSAR said time was critical, so 49 North Helicopters transported their members to the scene. Ski patrol prepared another landing site for an air ambulance from Ascent Helicopters.

A doctor who was on site was also able to help partially stabilize the patient.

The skier was transported to the parking area of the ski hill, where BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) took over.

CVSAR would like to remind people to “stay safe, adventure responsibly, and always be prepared.”
