VIDEO: Libertarian accepts the label 'radical centrist'

"There's a very big emphasis on personal liberties and freedoms," said Kyle Geronazzo.

It's hard to pin down the Libertarians on the right to left political spectrum. On one hand, they've been pressing for things we generally expect to see on the left.

"Since 1986, the BC Libertarian Party has been at the forefront of advocating for legalized gay marriage and the decriminalization of drugs," pointed out Gerenazzo. But on the other hand, they embrace a desire for a smaller role for government which is more typical in right-wing politics. "We believe strongly that the individual over government, should be left to look after our own finances," he explained.

So it's with a smile that Geronazzo accepts a seemingly contradictory label. "Some people call us radical centrists," he said.

Geronazzo advocates for the rights of British Columbians to seek healthcare in a private system that could exist alongside a public system. "To take the load off," he argued, "so that universal healthcare doesn't just become a universal waiting line."

A check on The BC Libertarian Party website shows candidates in 25 ridings.

"I have no illusions of becoming the next MLA for Kelowna-Lake Country," admitted Geronazzo, "What I run for is to advocate for my values."

Libertarians are widely accepting credit for the current Liberal promise to eliminate ICBC's vehicle insurance monopoly.

"If by running," he said, "they take more of my positions, then all the better for me."

Election day is October, 24.
