The Lyrid meteor shower has begun and here’s how you can view it

Time to find a sky gazing spot away from the city, because a meteor event is set to peak this weekend.

The Lyrid meteor shower is starting and promises to be out of this world.

According to NASA, the shower is active from April 14 to the 30th. This year, the peak is expected to fall on Sunday morning.

“In the early morning sky, a patient observer will see up to more than a dozen meteors per hour in this medium-strength shower, with 18 meteors per hour calculated for the peak,” says NASA.

Luckily, sky gazers anywhere on Earth can expect to be able to see numerous meteors during the few hours before dawn, thanks to little or no interference from the waxing moon, says EarthSky.com.

You may be able to see up to 10 to 20 Lyrid meteors an hour on Sunday morning when the shower is peaking.

So dust your cameras off folks, looks like this will be a good one!
