The nice thing about the “Cozy Modern Mountain” design style is that you don’t have to be super outdoorsy, or live in the woods to achieve the look.
The goal of designing this style of home is to create a rustic and modern, yet inviting space without being too country or too minimal. It may look difficult, but a few key pieces allow for a mix of warm and modern.
The overall aesthetic is bright and natural with contrasting features. Natural fabrics like leather and linen along with wood and stone features bring the outside in, allowing the interior to blend into its surroundings.
Contrasting modern finishes such as warm white walls and iron features would be a welcoming juxtaposition.
The majority of “whites” automatically give a modern look. To achieve the coziness, a warm white will prevent you space looking cold and sterile.
Try Benjamin Moore Simply White or Sherwin Williams Westhighland White.
Bringing organic elements from the outside in, allows for a seamless transition from the inside out.
If you’re renovating a log cabin, keep some of the wood details ( beams, floors, a feature wall) or if you’re building, add in a few wood details.
When selecting furniture & accessories, source out natural fabrics such as leather (or faux vinyl look alike), woven baskets, linen/woven polyester (for durability).
Mixing warm whites and materials like raw steel, black iron and brushed brass add for an interesting juxtaposition.
A raw steel fireplace, black iron light fixtures and added brass details provide against the warmth, natural elements and give added interest to the space.
Whether you live in the woods or downtown, you can create a space to make you feel like you’ve escaped to a modern mountain retreat!
