Canadian baby products for the environmentally conscious

Our household has seen a change in waste production with the addition of a baby.

Not only has the amount of garbage we produce gone up but I have also found our use of energy has increased. From wipes, diapers to doing extra laundry, having children can be taxing on Mother Nature.

As an environmentally conscious parent, I try my best to minimize my footprint and here is a list of some the sustainable baby products that I have found available.

Bonus: all of these companies are proudly Canadian!

Live Clean

I appreciate this brand because every one of their products – shampoo, lotion, soap, you name it – is completely vegan or vegetarian, plant and natural based, and they don't use animal products.

Also, none of their products or their ingredients have been tested on animals, which means they are cruelty-free!

This company promises to only use naturally sourced ingredients that are renewable and sustainable.

They also leave out commonly used chemicals and preservatives that are found in some other beauty and personal care products like sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), diethanolamine (DEA), silicones, phosphates and parabens.

Eco-Max

Chances are if you have a baby in the house, you will be utilizing your washer and dryer more than you used to.

Eco-Max uses only non-toxic ingredients for their cleaning products, which includes their natural baby laundry wash.

This scent-free, hypoallergenic product contains ingredients that are derived from biodegradable, renewable and sustainable botanical resources. Even the preservative used in this product is food grade.

This product is safe if it is accidentally ingested, so you don’t have to worry about harming the aquatic life in our lakes!

My little guy had skin issues in the first few months of life, and their products seemed to have kept his eczema manageable.

Eco-Max’s line of baby products also include an all-natural baby dish wash that is free of GMOs, sulphates, amine oxides and other toxic preservatives.

This hypoallergenic, scent-free wash is formulated for cleaning baby bottles, sippy cups, pacifiers, breast pump components and toys.

Matter Company

Started in 1996, Matter Company has a collection of baby products that are made of natural ingredients and are not tested on animals.

The founder, Denise Williams, is a certified Therapeutic Herbalist. Williams’ skincare formulas are made in small batches at her studio in Toronto.

She uses whole organic plants while extracting the beneficial vitamins and minerals from various herbs.

Living in such a sunny part of the country, I use their SPF 30 Baby Natural Sun Care Cream.

It is chemical-free and uses non nano, uncoated zinc-oxide as its active ingredient. It is water-resistant so I can rely on this sunscreen for beach days.
