GoFundMe started to put up barriers on the Niagara Trestle after Langford teen’s tragic death

A GoFundMe page has been started for the family of a Langford teen who was found deceased in Goldstream Provincial Park.

16-year-old Andre Courtemanche was going missing earlier this month. His body was recovered in the park by search and rescue crews on Jan. 9, 2021.

Police said that they do not suspect foul play.

The official cause of death is still under investigation, and police and the BC Coroners Service are conducting parallel investigations.

The crowdfunding page says that Andre was suffering from depression and anxiety, which was exasperated by the pandemic, and after he left his home on January 1 he tragically took his own life.

“After fighting for two years to get Andre some help coping his parents received a call for the long waited appointment two days after their beloved son went missing,” said the GoFundMe page.

“Too little too late.”

The organizer of the funding initiative added that it’s time that something be done about the Goldstream Trestle, and part of the funds raised will go towards erecting barriers on the Niagara Trestle — and to support mental health.

The rest of the funding will go to Andre’s family as they lay their son to rest.
