UPDATE: Outbreaks still active at RJH and several long term care homes

(Update: Jan. 18, 2022): Island Health has declared two outbreaks over, while three additional long-term care outbreaks have been declared.

Outbreaks declared over:

Selkirk Seniors Village long-term care home in Victoria: In total, one resident case was attributed to this outbreak. The outbreak remained limited to the third floor of the home.

Selkirk Seniors Village assisted living in Victoria: In total, one resident case was attributed to this outbreak. The outbreak remained limited to the sixth floor of the home.

New outbreaks:

Veterans Memorial Lodge long-term care home in Victoria: Four resident cases have been identified related to this outbreak. The outbreak declaration is limited to units B3 and A2 at this time.

Sunset Lodge long-term care home in Victoria: Eleven resident cases have been identified related to this outbreak. The outbreak declaration is limited to the third floor of the home at this time.

Sidney Care Home long-term care home in Sidney: One resident case has been identified related to this outbreak.

(Update: Jan. 17, 2022): Island Health has declared three long-term care outbreaks over, while declaring new outbreaks at sites in Victoria, including at Royal Jubilee Hospital.

Outbreaks declared over:

Eden Gardens long-term care home in Nanaimo: In total, four resident cases were attributed to this outbreak. The outbreak remained limited to the Cypress Unit (second floor).

Kiwanis Village Lodge long-term care home in Nanaimo: In total, one resident case was attributed to this outbreak. The outbreak remained limited to the first floor.

Amica Douglas House long-term care home in Victoria: In total, four staff cases were attributed to this outbreak. The outbreak remained limited to the second floor.

New outbreaks:

Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria: Three patient cases have been attributed to this outbreak. The outbreak declaration is limited to the 8 South East general medicine unit and no other portions of the hospital are affected.

It is still safe to seek care at RJH and people should not avoid seeking emergency care if they need it.

Selkirk Seniors Village Assisted Living in Victoria: One resident has tested positive related to this outbreak. The outbreak declaration is limited to the sixth floor of the assisted living side of the site. This is not related to the existing outbreak on the third floor of the long-term care side of Selkirk Seniors Village.

Luther Court long-term care home in Victoria: Three staff cases and two resident cases have been attributed to this outbreak. The outbreak declaration is limited to the 2 East unit of the home.

The Heights at Mt. View long-term care home in Victoria: One staff case and one resident case have been attributed to this outbreak. The outbreak declaration is limited to the fourth floor.

James Bay long-term care home in Victoria: Three resident cases have been attributed to this outbreak. The outbreak declaration is limited to the fifth and sixth floors.

(Update: Jan. 14, 2022): Island Health has declared one outbreak at a long term care home over, and added to new outbreaks to this list.

The outbreak declared on the Lansdowne unit at Aberdeen Hospital long-term care home on January 4 has been declared over. In total, two staff cases and three resident cases were attributed to this outbreak.

New outbreaks:

Dufferin Place long-term care home in Nanaimo: Nine resident cases have been identified related to this outbreak. The outbreak declaration is only for the Cedar unit at this time.

Beacon Hill Villa long-term care home in Victoria: Three resident cases have been identified related to this outbreak. The outbreak declaration is limited to the first floor of the home at this time.

(Update: Jan 12, 2022): Island Health has announced two more long term care homes are dealing with outbreaks on Vancouver Island.

Saanich Peninsula Hospital long-term care has two staff members and three residents with positive tests.

The outbreak declaration is limited to the extended care units and Saanich Peninsula Hospital is not affected.

Oyster Harbour long-term care home in Ladysmith has two resident cases and one staff case. The outbreak is limited to the Sea Haven unit at this time.

(Update: Jan 6, 2022): Island Health has confirmed one additional outbreak at a long term care facility on Vancouver Island.

The new outbreak is at Clover Point Care long-term care home in Victoria. One staff member and five residents have tested positive for COVID-19 at that location.

Additional cases have also been confirmed at other locations.

Glenwarren Lodge long-term care home in Victoria has three more confirmed cases, all staff members. In total, there are now 10 staff cases and five resident cases attributed to this outbreak.

Selkirk Seniors Village long-term care home in Victoria has two additional staff cases. In total, there are now eight staff cases and one resident case.

Finally, Eden Gardens long-term care home in Nanaimo had one additional staff member test positive, for a total of four staff cases and three resident cases.

Island Health declared outbreaks at five long-term care homes today.

Three of the homes are located in Victoria, and the other two are in Nanaimo.

Aberdeen Hospital long-term care home in Victoria has reported two staff members and three residents have tested positive for COVID-19.
The outbreak declaration is only for the Lansdowne Unit at this time.

Glenwarren Lodge long-term care home in Victoria has seven staff members and five residents who tested positive on the first floor of the facility.

Selkirk Seniors Village in Victoria has seven cases — six staff members and one resident, with the outbreak limited to the third floor.

In Nanaimo, Kiwanis Village Lodge has four cases, three of which are staff members. Eden Gardens also has four cases, three of which are staff members.

Island Health said that the sites are generally following the same outbreak protocols, including no admissions or transfers in affected units, limited staff movement, no congregation for dining or group activities, enhanced cleaning and screening, and testing.
