UPDATE: Kayak of missing Langford man recovered

(UPDATE: Jan. 14, 2021): RCMP Search and Rescue recovered a kayak believed to belong to missing Langford resident Timothy Ross.

The kayak was located in the ocean near McMillan Road which is close to the area where it is believed that Ross launched his Kayak on January 10, 2021.

The Ground Search and Rescue efforts are continuing and re-focussed based on this location.

“I want to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of those who have helped and volunteered their time on this investigation,” said Sergeant Kevin Shaw, Operations NCO of the Sooke RCMP Detachment.

“It is directly because of their vigilance that the kayak was located and recovered.”

The Sooke RCMP continue to investigate the disappearance of Ross, and again are appealing to anyone with information, or were on the water or near the coastline between Sooke and Jordan River on Jan. 10, 2021 to please call their office at 250-642-5241.

A Joint Rescue Coordination Centre has been activated in the search for a missing Sooke man.

On January 10, an overdue kayaker was reported to the Sooke RCMP.

Timothy Ross was reported to have launched his kayak from the Ella Road area at around 12:15 pm and was expected to return around 4 pm.

A number of witnesses have reported a solo kayaker continuing west along the coast line toward Port Renfrew throughout the day, with the last sighting being near the Shirley area.

Juan de Fuca Search and Rescue are actively searching the coastline and are supported by the Joint Rescue Coordination Center by air and land.

Description of Timothy Ross:

  • caucasian male
  • 38-years-old
  • 5 ft 8 in (173 cm)
  • 170 lbs (77 kg)
  • blonde hair
  • blue eyes

He was last seen wearing:

  • a black wetsuit
  • maroon striped wool toque

Timothy Ross is an experienced kayaker and believed to be in a blue coloured river kayak similar to the one pictured.

The Sooke RCMP are appealing to anyone with information to please call their office at 250-642-5241.

Specifically, the Sooke RCMP request that anyone on the water or near the coastline between Sooke and Jordan River to please be aware of Timothy Ross and his blue kayak and call the Sooke RCMP if he is seen.
