Junior hockey is back in the Okanagan!
The Okanagan Cup kicks off tonight with a pair of games, including the West Kelowna Warriors taking on the Vernon Vipers at Royal LePage Place.
Both teams will then head up Hwy 97 to play in Vernon on Saturday, while the Penticton Vees and Salmon Arm Silverbacks take each other on in a home-and-home series this weekend as well.
“The players are ready,” explained Simon Ferguson, Warriors head coach.
“They’ve been waiting six months to play some competitive games. We cannot wait to challenge ourselves against three very good hockey teams.”
Warriors fans have plenty to be excited about this year, as last year’s young core of John Evans, Carter Wilkie, Nick Ardanaz, Johnny Derrick and plenty others are returning.
They’re joined by a number of impressive recruits, including Marcus Joughin, Connor Joyce, Felix Trudeua, Pat Lawn, Wyllum Deveaux and Matthew Stienberg.
Ferguson also acquired a few names in trades, including Zach Brooks, Jarrett Penner, Zach Bennett and Kyle Pow.
Unfortunately, fans won’t be allowed in any of the four team’s home rinks for the duration of the Okanagan Cup, but all the games will be broadcast on both HockeyTV and the Warriors Mixlr Network.
